OUR HISTORY

Mr Orchid, who is known as Johnny Martinez, has been an entrepreneur since the mid-70s. Johnny was born in the Bronx, New York. He went to college in South Carolina and came to Miami in the early 80s. Johnny has always been an entrepreneur. He made his living selling nail polish and perfumes by day and driving a Taxi Cab at night but that's not all. He had bigger plans and became one of the Biggest Christmas Tree suppliers in South Florida during the late 80s through 2003. Johnny had expanded his seasonal business with his Father John. Bringing more than Christmas trees and toys but Fireworks tents all through Miami-Dade County. He did this for over a decade. Johnny, being a kid from the Bronx and driving a Taxi Cab in Miami, FL, knew how to talk to people. Johnny is the kind of person who makes people believe in magic.

Meeting Johnny is an experience in itself. Johnny suffered a horrific accident in the early 90s, leaving him in a wheelchair and without his legs. This did not stop Johnny from continuing to reinvent himself. Johnny turned his anger and frustration into drive and motivation. He went on to host the Largest Beanie Babies Collection's Show in South Florida. He opened two Water-to-Go stores in Doral and West Kendall and owned and operated a Century 21 real-estate and brokerage firm. Unfortunately, Johnny kept having a streak of bad luck. He lost his businesses due to road construction, and his Father seemingly passed all around the same time. Johnny had lost everything except for his entrepreneurial spirit and his immediate family.

Johnny's hobbies included all beautiful things, mostly family, animals, and nature, especially plants. Johnny moved to Colorado Springs in 2014. There, he planted all sorts of seeds, and a garden grew. Johnny managed to grow a garden in a state that snows nine months out of the year. He returned to Florida in January of 2016, and it was at that moment Johnny and his daughter, Jessalyn, opened their first business together. Two generations who share their pure love for orchids and are more alike than meets the eye.

This is what life is about: facing challenges, not being afraid to fail, never giving up, and doing what it takes while staying true to oneself. Johnny, much like an orchid, is not difficult to love nor is he high maintenance. Like an Orchid, for it to survive and thrive, it needs love and attention, much like people. Mr Orchid is committed to sharing the beauty, the secret, and the magic that keeps his orchids the freshest in town. Johnny enjoys engaging with others through his orchids. Johnny refers to it as therapy for the soul.
